Lock Change Rainham: when you need a whole new lock versus just the cylinder
One of the most common questions we hear on a lock change job is whether the entire lock needs replacing or just part of it. On a uPVC or composite door, the euro cylinder is the barrel your key turns, and it can often be swapped on its own while leaving the rest of the mechanism in place. That keeps the work quick and sensible when the issue is simply lost keys, a worn cylinder, or wanting fresh keys after moving in.
On timber doors the picture is different. A Yale-type nightlatch or a mortice deadlock is usually replaced as a complete unit, because the internal workings and the keyway are one assembly. If your key has become stiff, the door no longer latches cleanly, or you have handed keys to people you would rather no longer had access, a full lock change service resolves it properly rather than papering over a fault.
We will always tell you honestly which option fits your door. Sometimes a cylinder swap is all that is required; other times the whole lock is worn, outdated or no longer meets what your home insurer expects, and a door lock change is the better value over time. Either way we explain what we found and agree the price before we start — call 020 3725 7665 and we will talk it through.
